Donald E. Holmes

About Donald E. Holmes...
Captain Holmes was born 1 June 1927 in Hollywood, Florida. He married Dorothy Howard in December 1951 and together they had four children.
From 1944 - 1946 he served in the U.S. Army as an aircraft mechanic. In 1948 he received a commission in the U.S. Air Force, and entered pilot training.
He received his pilot wings in 1948.
Captain Holmes flew the C-47 "Gooney Bird" and the C-133 "Cargo Master". On June 1961 his aircraft was lost on a flight from Japan.
No trace of the plane, or crew was ever found.
Military decorations include: Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters; Presidential Unit Citation; European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal; World War II Victory Medal; Army Occupation Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Korean Service Medal; Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation;
and the United National Service Medal.
